RIX Riga Airport is Latvia’s largest international airport and one of the main air traffic hubs in the Baltic region. Every day, its territory is used by passengers, employees, business partners and service vehicles, making well-organised parking and access management an important part of the airport’s daily operations.
BISS and Riga Airport have worked together for many years to develop and improve the airport’s parking infrastructure. During this time, the cooperation has grown together with the airport’s needs, gradually creating a connected parking management system for different user groups and parking areas.
As part of the latest system expansion, the existing FidPark parking management system was extended to include the P6 and P7 car parks. Instead of introducing separate solutions for each location, both parking areas were connected to the system already used at the airport.
The expanded solution supports vehicle access using licence plate recognition, barcode tickets, and contactless cards. It also enables parking payments and controlled access for service vehicles, helping Riga Airport manage the new parking areas through the same established system and processes.
The project focused on expanding Riga Airport’s existing FidPark parking management system to the P6 and P7 car parks. Both parking areas were connected to the airport’s established infrastructure, allowing them to operate within the same parking management environment as the other locations already using FidPark.
The expansion included new entry and exit control points equipped with barriers, control terminals, LED displays, and ANPR cameras. The equipment was installed and configured to support the specific traffic flow of each car park while remaining fully connected to the central system.
The solution supports several vehicle identification methods. Drivers can use automatic licence plate recognition, barcode tickets or contactless cards, depending on the type of access and the user group. Parking fees can be paid at the payment terminal, while authorised service vehicles can enter and exit according to predefined access permissions.
When a vehicle approaches the car park, the system identifies it through the selected access method and controls the barrier accordingly. At the exit, the parking session and payment status are checked before access is granted. This creates one consistent process for managing regular visitors, authorised users, and service transport across both parking areas.
By extending the existing FidPark setup rather than introducing a separate system, the new equipment and parking areas became part of the airport’s established operational and technical infrastructure.
