Exploring New Opportunities Across the Balkan Region

"Even within one region, every country is different in adoption rates, payment preferences, and how parking works in practice."

This was one of the main conclusions from BISS CEO Aleksandrs' recent business trip across the Balkan region, where he met with partners, visited customer sites, and explored the future potential of parking management and access control solutions in several countries.

The trip confirmed that while the Balkan region is often viewed as a single market, the reality is very different. Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, and North Macedonia are all developing at their own pace, with different approaches to parking infrastructure, technology adoption, and customer expectations.

Compared to the Baltics, many of these markets are still in the early stages of parking digitalisation. However, this also creates significant opportunities. As cities grow and traffic congestion increases, the need for smarter parking management solutions continues to rise.

One trend that stood out during the visit was the growing interest from smaller commercial sites. Shopping centres, grocery stores, and other businesses are increasingly looking for ways to manage parking availability and prevent long-term parkers from occupying spaces intended for customers. In many cases, the goal is not to charge for parking but to improve the overall customer experience.

Beyond market insights, the trip highlighted the importance of strong local partnerships. Face-to-face meetings, site visits, and practical discussions provided a deeper understanding of local challenges and opportunities than could ever be achieved remotely.

A particularly valuable part of the visit was spending time with BISS partner SSG in Romania. Discussions focused on ongoing projects, future opportunities, and sharing knowledge gained from the Baltic market. Site visits provided a practical perspective on how solutions are implemented locally and where additional support and expertise can create even greater value. SSG's commitment, willingness to learn, and strong belief in the opportunities ahead highlighted the importance of having the right local partner. These conversations reinforced an important lesson: successful international growth is not about applying the same solution everywhere. It is about understanding local realities and working together to create solutions that fit each market's specific needs.

As BISS continues to expand internationally, visits like these help strengthen partnerships, identify new opportunities, and ensure that our solutions evolve alongside the markets we serve.
